Deep-sea Trash Photos First Released by “Blue Eyes in Action” Campaign Shocked the World Calling for Marine Conservation at the World Ocean Week in Xiamen

With the deepening of ocean research by humans, the world is also paying attention to the sustainable development of the blue economy. In the exploration of the ocean, researchers all over the world have discovered human waste at different depths in the deep sea. The prevention and control of deep-sea trash has become a global problem that cannot be ignored.

Release Conference for the “Blue Eyes in Action”

On November 3, a set of photos of deep-sea trash was released at the 2018 World Ocean Week in Xiamen with the “Blue Eyes in Action” campaign launched, calling on everyone to stop pollution and protect the ocean. The event was co-hosted by Pioneer Hi-Tech Development Co.Beijing (PHTD), HongHai Marine Co., Ltd., Beijing Lihai Technology Co., Ltd., Shenzhen GOLGEN Watch Industry Co., Ltd., Beijing Guohai Deep Blue Culture & Media Co., Ltd., Beijing Shoecase Culture Communication Co., Ltd., and over 30 institutions participated in this environmental protection activity.

Today, at the event were released a set of videos and photos taken during research activities. In the deep ocean, marine life is gradually adapting to human waste, and the cost of salvaging deep-sea trash cannot be quantified, which means that the environmental damage caused by it will be continuous and far-reaching.

At a depth of about 3,500 meters under the Indian Ocean, the picture shows unidentified abandoned equipment trash at the deep-sea bottom

This set of 15 deep-sea trash photos released was respectively taken under the sea at a depth of 2,300-5,100 meters in the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea. In the pictures, we can clearly see that human domestic garbage and microplastics are scattered in the sea, while the surrounding deep-sea biogroup is suffering from the harm by micro-plastics.

The “Blue Eyes in Action” theme exhibition brought together outstanding marine companies and people who care about marine ecology. While pushing forward China’s marine scientific research, it also focused on the marine conservation cause, with the prevention and control of deep-sea trash as the breakthrough point, so as to draw the attention of tens of thousands people who love the sea to those marine conservation issues.

The “Blue Eyes in Action” theme exhibition also responded to the theme of “All Together for a Shared Sustainable Ocean” at the 2018 World Ocean Week in Xiamen. On a global platform for exchanging ocean policies, science and technology, decision-making and actions, the idea of emphasizing both “High-tech Pioneer” and “Environmental Protection Pioneer” advocated by people who love sea can be extended to the global marine industry.

The initiators, the volunteer representative and the chief scientist co-launched the initiative

After the release of this set of photos, the event representative read out the Blue Eyes in Action Initiative where co-initiators, volunteer representatives and the chief scientist jointly proposed the “Blue Eyes in Action” campaign to protect the ocean. The guests present stood up and responded to the initiative by making an oath to contribute to the marine conservation cause. The action has brought together more than 30 ocean-related companies to engage in this campaign.

Below is the original text of the initiative:

To all who love the blue sea:

The vast sky, the boundless sea
Blue, a touch of base color
That can be found in every eye of creatures on the Earth

We are born on the land, yet yearning for the ocean
All day long, we share our inner joys with the sea spray
And explore mysteries hidden in the deep sea throughout the year

The color changes from azure to deep blue
I thought deep in the sea
There should be blue with ever more deepness an calmness

However,
Thousands meters deep into the sea
I could still see corals tightly wrapped by plastic bags
Pieces of trash have become the last meal for fish

Perhaps your carelessness for just one time
Could turn into a life nightmare for deep-sea creatures

Let us stop pollution
And stop harm
From today on, we’re committed to returning the blue of hope to the ocean
And returning the pure blue to ourselves
